A nose that exhibits gorgeous aromatics of dried flowers, spice, and lychee fruit. On the palate, it has a beautiful structure and acidity. A great pairing with seafood and spicy Thai cuisine.

Torrontés is the characteristic white wine grape of Argentina. The varietal is related to the Malvasia group of grapes which originated in the Eastern Mediterranean and found their way to Atlantic islands such as Madeira. It is not known how the grape arrived in Argentina, but it seems to have been there a long time, suggesting that it was brought by Spanish colonists, quite possibly missionaries.

The 2003 Tempranillo yielded less than 1 ton of fruit per acre. The 2003 Bloodstone has abundant fruit character yet a tannin structure that aged the fruit gracefully.

Pinotage

Pinotage is a grape variety that was created in South Africa in 1925 by Abraham Izak Perold, the first Professor of Viticulture at Stellenbosch University. Perold was attempting to combine the best qualities of the robust Cinsault with Pinot Noir, a grape that makes great wine but can be difficult to grow. Cinsaut is known as Hermitage in South Africa, hence the portmanteau name of Pinotage.

This particular red is obviously well-crafted, an easy-to-like new friend if you haven't yet played with Cape vino. It's medium-bodied and velvety smooth, with pure red raspberry and cherry fruit. A kiss of pepper spice and vanillin oak bring it close to a modern Rhône in style. No need to struggle with food affinities: its moderate weight and dryness make it an elegant all-purpose red.

The 2004 season started hot and dry, which contributed to early ripening. Cool temperatures and intermittent light rain slowed ripening and allowed the grapes to enjoy extra hang time by mid-September. Warm temperatures and dry weather resumed in early fall through harvest’s end. Overall the 2004 harvest is characterized by small berry size and concentrated, quality fruit.

Our staff unanimously agrees: You will not find a better tasting, finer quality American “bargain” wine. Aromas of cherries and cola with hints of spice box introduce this Merlot. The silky palate displays flavors of red cherry, juicy berries and a touch of caramel and mocha.

Merlot for people who don’t drink Merlot.

The Sauvignon Blanc grape traces its origins to western France in the Loire Valley and Bordeaux Regions. At some point in the 18th century, the vine paired with Cabernet Franc to parent the Cabernet Sauvignon vine in Bordeaux. The first cuttings of Sauvignon Blanc were brought to California in the 1880’s. In 1968, Robert Mondavi decided to try to tame the aggressive flavors of the grape with barrel agings and released the wine under the name Fumé Blanc as an allusion to the French Pouilly-Fumé.

Jasmine-tinged aromas lead to fresh melon and pear flavors enlivened with a hint of orange and complex floral and mineral notes. Beautiful balance of crisp acidity and creamy texture from sur lie aging.

Sauvignon Blanc was first introduced to New Zealand in the 1970s as an experimental planting to blended with Müller-Thurgau. In the 1990s, Sauvignon Blanc wines from the maritime climatic regions of New Zealand, particularly the South Island, became popular on the wine market. In the Marlborough region, sandy soils over slate shingles have become the most desirable locations for plantings due to the good drainage of the soil and poor fertility that encourages the vine to concentrate its flavors in lower yields.

Translating into Italian as “little sweet one”, Dolcetto is one of the classic grape varietals of the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. This wine is sometimes considered Italy’s version of Pinot Noir as it is light in body and meant for early drinking.

The wine is light ruby in color and exhibits a cinnamon custard nose with concealed inexpensive potpourri floral notes. The wine greets the palate with the impression of complexity and tight structure then proceeds to deliver a solid attack of raspberry and black currant to the tongue. A classic Italian wine priced more reasonably than its famous peers Barolo or Barbaresco.

Back when the American Civil War was raging, an audacious farmer put the first vitis vinifera vines into the ground of what was later to become the state of Idaho. Now, 144 years later, Idaho has its first American Viticultural Area. The appellation offers important pluses like a phylloxera-free environment so that own-rooted vines can be used, but there are also challenges such as extremely cold winters that pose threats of winter kill.

The Skyline Red blend consists of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Syrah, 10% Merlot and 5% Primativo (Zinfandel). This wine has aromas of dark fruits, rich black berry and spice. It starts with rich dark fruit flavors that fill the mouth, supple tannins, and a beautiful long finish.

The Old Brewery at Tadcaster was founded in 1758 and is Yorkshire’s oldest brewery. Samuel Smith is one of the few remaining independent breweries in England, and further is the last to utilize the classic Yorkshire Square system of fermentation solely in stone squares.

Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Gamay is a purple-colored grape variety used to make red wines, most notably grown in Beaujolais. The Gamay grape is thought to have appeared first in the village of the Gamay, south of Beaune, in the 1360s. The grape brought relief to the village growers following the decline of the Black Death. In contrast to the Pinot Noir variety, Gamay ripened two weeks earlier and was less difficult to cultivate. It also produced a strong, fruitier wine in a much larger abundance.

Gamay-based wines are typically light bodied and fruity. This wine is fresh and lively with light raspberry and strawberry aromas.

With more land under vine than any other country in the world, Spain is the great sleeping wine giant. Rueda is a recognized winegrowing region (Denominación de Origen (DO)) of Spain that is located in the Community of Castile and Leon. During the 18th century the land planted to vines was greater in extent than it is now and was exclusively under the Verdejo grape variety. The wines produced enjoyed great commercial success in part due to the clarification process used which involved the use of local clay.

This white wine is made from 100% Verdejo grapes. Light gold in color. Pungent, grassy nose, with vibrant scents of lemon, green tea, ginger and jasmine. Spicy and incisive, with brisk citrus flavors accented by herbs and minerals. Finishes broad, supple and spicy, with gentle acids.

In 1309, Pope Clement V transferred the papal residence from Rome to Avignon, France. In 1377, Pope Gregory XI moved the papal residence back to Rome, and some noble families of Avignon left France to follow him. Established by one of these families, the Palazzo Avignonesi winery was built sometime in the late 16th century, making the cellars among the most ancient in Italy.

This is a delicious Tuscan red. The wine is dark purple-garnet in color showing nice concentration and exuding warm aromas of black cherries, dried herbs and earth. This smooth wine provides a rich mouthful of dark fruit flavors, raspberries, kirsch liqueur, plums and tar. Well-structured with soft tannins, have this excellent wine with hearty dishes or pork and beef.

According to legend, three wine merchants came to the town of Zell (in Germany) to buy wine. In one of the cellars, they tasted several wines out of different barrels. They had narrowed the choice to three barrels but they couldn’t agree on which one was the best. They were about to take another sample, when a black cat suddenly jumped on one of the barrels, arched its back, its fur standing on end, and swiped its paw at anyone who tried to get closer. The wine merchants quickly came to an agreement and chose the barrel which was so obstinately defended by the cat, thinking that it probably contained the best wine.

Nose of tropical fruit and rich floral tones. Light body with medium sweetness and light acids. Brilliant pairing with a light salad or spicy Asian cuisine.

Lemberger, also known as Blaufränkisch in Germany and Austria, was first cultivated along the Danube in present-day Slovenia. It is grown all over central Europe and more recently, in increasing quantities, Washington and Idaho. The first commercial planting of Lemberger in the United States was by Kiona in 1976.

Rich red wine aromas with nuances of Merlot and Cabernet are present, along with an unfamiliar but intriguing spicy background. Mildly tannic with a velvety balanced mouthfeel. Aged in French and American oak.

Adelaida’s primary label Syrah in 2004 came from three steep and low yielding vineyards within 10- 15 miles of the cool Pacific current. Picked as ripeness levels were peaking, the fruit underwent fermentation in open top bins using only native yeasts.

This fleshy Syrah offers deep black fruitiness and savory, gamey character. Redolent of ripe plums and roasting meat intermixed with elements of hand-rubbed English leather, the rich, mouth-filling mid palate rewards with luscious fruit concentration and a long penetrating baking spice finish.
