Wine Features

Semillon

Chateau Ste Michelle, 2005

Columbia Valley, Washington

Semillon is one of the traditional Washington state varieties and has quite a bit of “weight” for a tank fermented wine. This wine delivers aromas and flavors of fig, ripe melon with a hint of spice. The winemaker added Sauvignon Blanc for a crisp, refreshing quality and to complement the natural richness of Semillon. Try this wine paired with Asian food (not too spicy).

Marsanne

Wellington Vineyards, 2005

Sonoma Valley, California

Many American producers of Rhone variety whites are making “Chardonnay wannabees” – big, fat wines with lots of new oak. This Marsanne saw minimal new oak, so that the true character of the grape variety shines through. It has aromas reminiscent of orange, tangerine and apricot, along with notes of almond and pepper. A moderately rich entry is followed by a full viscous mid-palate dominated by acute citrus flavors.
